Any brand looking to “get” social media must learn to listen, first. People are talking about your company, brands and products. They’re also discussing preferences and desires about the market your product serves.
You can learn a LOT about consumer opinions, trends and wants with simple Google Alerts, Twitter Search and other free search and tracking tools.
Twitter’s huge cloud of remarks being made at any given time has become a powerful new measure of what people think, feel, talk about and find interesting. News breaks fast (and usually, first) on Twitter.

Tweetgrid provides an auto-refreshing at-a-glance display of up to 9 Twitter Searches at once, so that you can easily stay on top of your brand.
Here’s a 3×1 display for my business that searches “Twitter Business” “Enterprise Twitter” and “Pistachio.”
The interface isn’t sexy, but it works. It’s also convenient, free and fast.
Companies that are serious about tapping into the wealth of information in the social mediasphere should use professional grade listening tools, Tweetgrid makes an interesting and easy place to start.

One of the main drawbacks using tweet deck is having to move out of your browser into the air platform. It will be interesting to see if tweet grid adds posting capability.
Thanks for the post! I know it’s not very sexy, but first and foremost I wanted to make sure it works, works fast, and works well. Maybe a design upgrade is in the future. I do plan on adding the ability to post directly from tweetgrid. Hopefully that will be implemented very soon!
You can easily do this with a NetVibes dashboard as well. This would also allow u to add other listening touchpoints…such as Technorati, Google Blog Searches, Flickr, YouTube, etc.etc.
like this monitoring station I set up for stanford: http://www.netvibes.com/stanford
I have now added the ability to tweet directly from TweetGrid. You can also click “Reply” in any incoming tweet to start a reply to them.
@J.J. Does NetVibes update twitter in real time? I ask because I don’t know.
Chad is this running off the RSS from Summize or the application itself? I think Tweetgrid would be real-er time than Netvibes because of the RSS latency, but I’m not very techie…
People have such a tough time going from broadcasting/pitching to conversations/participating. Listening is the bridge in between them.
OUCH! Safari didn’t like that grid. The boxes layered over themselves horizontally.
Nice idea though.
