Listen. No really. Just, Listen.

To be a better presenter, be a better listener. I’ve riffed on this before. But it bubbled up in Friday’s seminar, then here and here

Listen better and you’ll be a better marketer, spouse, parent, (ok basically, a better human being.) I can’t overstate the importance of listening better in any context. But to stay on topic, listening is probably THE most neglected presenting & speaking skill.

Be better at:

  • holding audience attention
  • not rambling on
  • getting right to what your audience needs
  • eliciting a response
  • getting your ideas across and accepted
  • ACCOMPLISHING YOUR GOAL

By listening.
It’s the return path, stupid. Broadcast your ideas with no intake, and they can get lost without context or impact. Listen, read, watch, observe (etc.) AND ADJUST, and more and more of your ideas will be received, accepted and responded to.

Listen better and be heard better.

That is all.

“AND ADJUST” – that’s a big key. The difference between hearing and listening, yes?
